Field School PTO Meeting

9/12/17

 

Approx 16 in attendance and 1 staff member

 

Call to Order: Meeting called to order at 7:38 pm

 

Approval of Minutes:  Approval of meeting minutes from May, 2017

  • Motion to Approve: Catherin Gillespie

Dr. Heinz Report

  • We are off to busy start-welcomed over 40 new employees, largest new teacher orientation since she has been here. There was a big retirement incentive which allowed for new hiring.  The district provided crucial training to all the new employees.

  • We are in 3rd year of 5-year strategic plan. We are really focused on differentiation with more group work and flexible learning.  We have a new ELA curriculum and should be district wide next year.

  • Had a PTO presidents meeting this morning.  Good meeting with all PTO Presidents.

  • Hot lunch off to a good start.  There have been some bumps but are working them out. If you have concerns about the hot lunch program let your principal know and they will get info to correct person.

  • Watch for 2nd annual annual report to all households in the district. They are being sent soon.

  • In technology a new initiative for   parents have will have access to grades etc. We are considering providing this service to upper elementary. Have Ms. Ward come to a meeting sometime to provide more information.

  • Social Media is not always used properly.  It can become a complaint outlet and nothing gets resolved that way.  If you see a post that is disturbing, please let a teacher or principal know so it can be addressed. 

  • Bernadette Tram is working on a new application for community relations committee. She hopes to launch that again this fall. This is a great way to get information out to the community.

  • There are 4 new members on the district 64 school board this year.  Dr. Heinz will spend time getting them up to speed on priority of projects, cost etc. She encouraged people to come to the Board meetings to share thoughts.

Meetings start at 7:00 PM.  Pay attention to the eblast communications, they are full of information.

Facility Update:

  • Our LCR is about half done. Removed circulation desk and made desk smaller.  Goal is to make it a more flexible space.   Lincoln’s new entryway was completed over the summer.

  • All entrances will be looked at this year again. Looking at playgrounds to see how widely used the playgrounds are.  Are going to look into if we should limit playground use. Also reviewing offsite location procedures at all schools.

  • Roosevelt will be getting classrooms next summer

Presidents Report

  • Thank you Phyllis Lubinski for Back to school teacher breakfast for the teachers and staff.

  • Thank you to Brandy Oomen, Kristen Massucci and all the volunteers for a great Back to School Picnic.  We had a great turn out and a lot of positive feedback.  Going forward we will continue with the picnic in the fall.

  • Pizza Day- Thank you Amy Konwal for organizing pizza day again this year. Pizza is from Kiddie Kingdom again this year. Hot lunch is now offered the other 4 days a week. Parents, please be specific about what you order.  It can be complicated with the drink order. Kids get wrist bands indicating their food choices. Hot lunch and pizza day are on different websites and receipts can be seen on Revtrak.

  • Field Follies: is underway, practice started yesterday.  Thank you to Susan Smith, Sara McFadden and Phyllis Lubinski for producing the 30th annual show. Show dates Nov. 10, 11 12.   Flights of Fantasy is the name and approx..  249 kids are signed up. There are 26 coaches and each scene has about 25 kids. Hoping for other parents to take a shift show weekend so coaches can also see the show. High school students could assist for volunteer hours as well.

  • Clubs: Several clubs are starting soon so watch for those.  Math club is ready for registration and starts in early Oct. Chess, runs. Oct. 23 to Dec. 18th and sign up start Oct. 1st. $96 for the 8 weeks. Everyone will go through back ground checks. Vendor will give back %10 for paying for the space. All grades and level welcome. Spanish, Chess, Lego and Drama will be in the coming months.

  • Fall Fest: Friendsgiving. Nov. 3rd Prospect Park. Contact Becky Ball to donate an item or service.  Additional info coming soon.

  • Room Parents: Thank you Kristen Massucci for room parent assignments.  Room parents still receive $100 per year, $50 for each room party.

  • Field Flyer: Info coming soon so watch for that. Thank you Susan Smith for organizing that this year.

  • Picture Day- Sept. 22nd. Order forms have gone home in back packs. Rene Schmiser is organizing if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.

  • Zumba: Ms. Maza is organizing Zumba in the Park sat. Oct. 7th from 9-10. On the playground. All ages welcome.

VP Report

  • Spread the word to go to Revtrack to sign up for directory.  It is helpful for everyone to have this information.  Put a reminder in the Blast to sign up for the directory. Website is not necessarily very user friendly.

  • We hope to put committee heads back into the website with a description.

  • Please come to Fall Fest and Vshow Script Reveal Party! Sat. night 411 N. Ashland. VShow Producers will be here at the next PTO meeting.

 

Treasurers Report

  • We are going to bring the winter carnival back and cancel the Halloween party. Gena Romagnoli is willing to help with Winter Carnival Currently we have $71, 000 in cash and savings in the account. 

  • Paul will try to find out the status of the projector, but he has not paid any invoices yet. We will see if it has been installed.

  • We will add $800 for Discovery Day for next year. might need to be added to the budget. 

  • Mrs. Fiore will ask teachers if they would like a $500 contribution for Cultural Diversity Fair.

  • We have earmarked walk -a -thon funds for flexible furniture for the library.  We will add this years Walk –a –thon monies to that as well.

  • We added $500 to the 5th grade promotion party.

Committee Reports:

 

  • Girls on the Run- Leda Bunting report-  Program for 3-5th grade girls. District made rules teachers can no longer help so Lida will now be the site coordinator.   Does PTO Give permission to run as a PTO? We will have to table this until Jen talks to Dr. Heinz. $205 for girls to participate, paid directly to Girls on the Run.

  • Performing Arts Club starts in Jan. and will need volunteers for the program. Monday and Fridays starting in Jan.  Same as last year. Small fee and a professional comes and runs the program.  More volunteers we could make it bigger.

 

New Business:
Sept. 28th 7:00PM School funding voter event at Lincoln. Information to be provided for the next blast.
